New page

Campaign Interlude – Thurmin’s Retirement
Date: 2/23/2023
DM: Lauren

Summary
Following the conclusion of the Lost Mine of Phandelver arc, Thurmin has officially stepped away from adventuring life, transitioning into semi-retirement as a minor but influential figure in Phandalin and the surrounding Sword Coast.

Dividing his time between the Stonehill Inn and the reclaimed Wave Echo Cave, Thurmin now manages two modest enterprises:

* The Stonehill Brewery – A partnership with Gundren Rockseeker, turning the inn’s backroom into a small but successful microbrewery. Thurmin calls himself the “idea man,” though most of the labor falls on Gundren’s shoulders.
* The Forge of Spells Project – Collaboration with Nundren Rockseeker to study and restore the magical forge. Nundren has begun crafting powerful magical weapons for select, trustworthy buyers.

Their work has attracted unwanted attention from Halia Thornton, head of the Phandalin Miner's Exchange and operative of the Zhentarim. When Thurmin and Nundren refused to sell weapons to her clients, Halia imposed a “protection tax” on their operations.

Rather than engage in open conflict, Thurmin took a creative approach: recruiting the young green dragon Venomfang as a guardian of the Forge. In exchange for treasure and territory, Venomfang protects the site and consumes unwanted intruders — though the definition of “intruder” remains a work in progress.

For now, a fragile truce holds. Thurmin continues paying Halia’s tax, preferring peace and profit over renewed bloodshed. His retirement is comfortable, his influence stable… for now.

Foreshadowing
* The growing tension between Halia Thornton and Thurmin’s allies may resurface in the early stages of Rise of Tiamat.
* Venomfang’s growing hoard could make Wave Echo Cave a future draconic flashpoint.
* The Forge’s residual magic continues to ripple through local ley lines, drawing cult attention toward the region.
