	The heroes then confronted a group of bugbears under the supervision of the drow Vahlek, one of [[Nezznar the Black Spider]]’s lieutenants. When negotiations failed, Vahlek fled to warn his master. Moments later, Nezznar revealed himself — or rather, didn’t, as he turned invisible and sicced his pet spiders on the intruders. Also present was a battered dwarf who claimed to be [[Nundren Rockseeker]].

	The ensuing battle was swift and decisive. Nezznar, the would-be spider lord of Phandelver, fell before he could unleash his true potential. His ambitions died with him — and the drow’s grand web unraveled.

	In the aftermath, “Nundren” revealed himself to be a Doppelganger — the brother of [[Verhys]], the shapeshifter Shade had previously killed (and maybe flirted with). Vengeance was swift, if short-lived. Verhys struck first but fell soon after. On Nezznar’s corpse, the party found a key leading to a nearby locked chamber — and the real [[Nundren Rockseeker]] within.

	Now the heroes hold the knowledge of the Forge’s location and the allegiance of its lonely guardian. But history is written in blood beneath these caverns — and as the saying goes, mo’ caverns = mo’ problems. Every dwarf, wizard, and orc who’s ever come here has ended up dead. Surely this group will fare better. Probably.
