The Harpers' Read

A black dragon is a patient, gloating thing that savours a slow death. It fights from the water and the dark — submerged until you are close, then a line of searing acid spat down the length of your formation. The acid does nothing to it in turn, so carry no acid against it and spend nothing on the element it was born to. Like all great wyrms it will shrug off a binding or two before its defiance runs dry, and its mere presence can stop a brave heart cold. Do not meet it on its own ground; draw it onto dry, open footing where its lurking and its swimming count for nothing.

Encounters of Record

The company has the measure of this kind. They put down the black dragon Voaraghamanthar in the drowned country of the Mere of Dead Men around Castle Naerytar (27–29), and later stripped the Black Dragon Mask from the cult at Skyreach Castle (32–33). Black-blooded servants of the Cult of the Dragon have crossed the company many times since.
