A cluster of farmsteads on the High Road between Luskan and Neverwinter, about three days' walk out of Luskan, burned to rubble a fortnight before the company passed them on the road south (Session 52).
What happened
A red dragon none of the settlers had ever seen landed with four cultists on its back, demanded everything of value, and burned the homes the moment they refused. Afterwards the cultists walked through the ashes and drew out the little gold and jewellery the families had kept — as though they could smell it. The survivors were left with nothing.
Baelgrum, who lost part of his own family the same way, got the truth out of them: the Cult of the Dragon is working through a list of targets, gathering a hoard for Tiamat. Maccath the Crimson reasoned the list must be randomised, so that no attack predicts the next. The dragon was two weeks and untold miles gone.
