Session 26 – The Road to Neverwinter (2/18/24)

Lore Drop

The caravan arrives safely in **Baldur’s Gate**, where its travelers part ways. The heroes follow the suspected **Cult of the Dragon** wagons to an inn on the north side of town, where they receive a new job offer.

Long ago, there was a road connecting Baldur’s Gate to **Neverwinter**, known as the **High Road**. Decades ago, an earthquake destroyed much of the route, and the surrounding swampland—now called the **Dead Moors**—made travel between the two cities perilous. The damage crippled Neverwinter’s trade routes.

Now, Lord Neverember of Neverwinter seeks to rebuild the road. Contractors are hired to escort supplies across the Dead Moors to the city, staying at the **Carnath Roadhouse**, overseen by a half-orc named **Bog Luck**. Some workers remain to assist the rebuild; others run round trips between the two cities.

Recap

The group takes on the escort job. Among the other contractors are **Azbara Jos**, **Jamma Gleamsilver**, **Longnose Lovius**, and **Lena Widris**, each driving wagons full of construction materials—or perhaps more.

En route, the caravan is attacked by trolls and lizardfolk. After a fierce battle, the group fends off the monsters and reaches the Carnath Roadhouse. Upon arrival, the wagons are unloaded in a courtyard, and a few high-value items are stored in a locked storeroom.

Using her thievery skills, **Gootcha Zinnoa** breaks into the storeroom under cover of night and discovers a trapdoor in the floor, leading to a hidden tunnel. Before the party can decide what to do, several waves of lizardfolk emerge from the tunnel, resulting in a bloody battle. The session ends with the party victorious—but standing over a pile of lizard corpses, staring into the dark tunnel to parts unknown.
