For approximately one year prior to the party's arrival, the village had been largely taken over by the Cult of the Dragon as a base of operations for their treasure transport activities centered around Skyreach Castle.

Parnast is a modest settlement that became a focal point in the Cult of the Dragon's operations during their campaign to summon Tiamat. The cult established a significant presence in the village, using it as a staging ground for treasure collection and transport via the flying ice fortress known as Skyreach Castle.
The village's occupation by the cult created a complex situation for its residents. While many villagers appeared to tolerate or even accept the cult's presence due to the influx of wealth and goods flowing through the settlement, not all residents were content with the arrangement. The cult's operations brought both prosperity and danger to Parnast, fundamentally altering the character of the once-quiet village.
The village's strategic importance stemmed from its proximity to Skyreach Castle's landing site. The massive flying fortress, constructed of ice and capable of flight, would land near Parnast to load treasure destined for the cult's ritual sites.
