History
Centuries ago, Garmok the Chainbearer ventured into the Mere of Dead Men to free prisoners—half-drakes and hybrids chained by infernal magic. When he shattered their chains, an infernal rift opened, threatening to allow devils to invade the Material Plane. Garmok threw his flail into the maw of the rift and was pulled in with it, sealing the breach at the cost of his own life.
For generations after, the fen remembered Garmok's sacrifice, and travelers reported hearing "the clang of steel deep beneath the muck" on still nights.
Campaign Involvement
In Session 42, an Orc Captain shared the legend of Garmok with the party, warning that the mine still festers. He suggested that a clan near Silverymoon might hold more stories of the Skarhald Clan's champions.
In Session 43, Xanphina was empowered by Garmok's spirit as she drew closer to his resting place. Dragon cultists tortured an orc captain to learn that Xanphina sought Garmok's Mine.
In Session 44, Deez Nuts encountered Garmok's ghost and helped him finally complete his duty by destroying the horned devil he'd been restraining for centuries. Xanphina claimed Garmok's flail, connecting her to the Skarhald Clan's heroic legacy.
Legacy
The Skarhald Clan's greatest hero saved countless lives by preventing an infernal invasion. His sacrifice and weapon now empower Xanphina, linking her to the clan's traditions of heroism.
