The Ashen Covenant is a group of five ancient chromatic dragons who have allied with the Cult of the Dragon to support Tiamat's return to the Material Plane.
Overview
The Ashen Covenant represents one of the most dangerous alliances in the Cult of the Dragon's arsenal—five powerful chromatic dragons coordinating their efforts. Each dragon represents one of the five chromatic types: red, black, blue, green, and white.

- Vaartox the Red – Ancient red dragon (slain by Deez Nuts in Session 38)
- Tharzyzzul – Black dragon (active)
- Xhaerenth – Blue dragon (active)
- Sevaltharix – Green dragon (active)
- Vyndraethis – White dragon (active)
Formation
The five dragons formed the Ashen Covenant as a pact to serve the Cult of the Dragon and facilitate Tiamat's return. Their coordinated efforts represent a significant threat to the Sword Coast, as each dragon brings immense power and the ability to rally other dragons of their color.
Campaign Involvement
The Ashen Covenant was first revealed in Session 38, when Deez Nuts encountered and slew Vaartox the Red. The battle was fierce, demonstrating the incredible danger posed by even one member of the covenant.
With Vaartox's death, the covenant has been reduced to four dragons, but the remaining members continue to pose a significant threat to the region and the party.
Goals
- Support the Cult of the Dragon's ritual to summon Tiamat
- Coordinate chromatic dragon activity across the Sword Coast
- Eliminate threats to the cult's plans (including Deez Nuts)
Current Status
Active - Four of five covenant members remain at large. The location and activities of Tharzyzzul, Xhaerenth, Sevaltharix, and Vyndraethis are unknown, making them an ongoing threat.
