Tharzyzzul the Black is a young black dragon and original member of the Ashen Covenant, a secret alliance of five chromatic dragons serving the Cult of the Dragon.
Background
Tharzyzzul is one of the five founding members of the Ashen Covenant, pledging service to the Cult of the Dragon and Tiamat. As a black dragon, Tharzyzzul possesses a devastating acid breath weapon and prefers lairs in swamps and marshes.
The Ashen Covenant was created by order of high-ranking wyrmspeakers to pre-emptively destroy threats to Tiamat's eventual summoning, including bloodlines descended from ancient dragon-slayers, fey enclaves guarding prophetic knowledge, and sacred druidic sites.
Each member of the Covenant represented one of Tiamat's five heads, and their initial assault on Glimmerwood was known as the Trial of Flame—a test to prove their loyalty and ascendancy within the Cult.
Current Status
Active – He is presumed to have survived the disbandment of the Ashen Covenant and now operates independently, likely preparing for the next stage of the cult's plan—or his own.
Tharzyzzul remains at large as an active threat to the Sword Coast. The Talons of Veylan, particularly Sylwen Moondrift, have hunted the Covenant for 50 years.
Tactics
Black dragons are known for their cunning and cruelty. They prefer ambush tactics in their swampy domains, using their acid breath to devastating effect. Tharzyzzul, as a member of the elite Ashen Covenant, likely possesses additional training and resources from the Cult of the Dragon.
