Arauthator's Mate
Arauthator's Mate is an ancient white dragon, the consort of Arauthator ("Old White Death"), driven half-mad by grief. Her existence — and Arauthator's plan for her — was revealed in Session 48 and confirmed by Maccath the Crimson's debrief in Session 51. She is unnamed in the party's knowledge (identified elsewhere on this wiki as Arveiaturace).
The Mad Mate
Roughly thirty years ago, the mate's tiefling wizard rider was killed. The loss broke her mind; to this day she still carries the rider's half-decayed corpse strapped into the saddle, unwilling to part with her. Arauthator expected she might recover on her own in another fifty years or so — but he had been hunting a faster remedy.
Arauthator's Plan
This is the true reason behind Arauthator's interest in tieflings, and why he kept the tiefling wizard Maccath the Crimson alive as a captive: he sought a replacement tiefling wizard to serve as his mate's new companion and pull her back from madness. When the party reached him, he offered Shade — a tiefling spellcaster — exactly that role, framing it as an offer she could not refuse. Shade refused anyway, and the battle began.
In Session 51, the freed Maccath's full debrief confirmed it from the inside: Arauthator carried her to his lair not to kill her, but to audition her as the replacement companion. She stalled him with research for months until Deez Nuts arrived.
Status
Alive, insane, and at large in the far north. With Arauthator slain [1], nothing now stands between the grieving, mad ancient white dragon and whatever her broken mind decides — and no one is left trying to heal her. The party has flagged her as a live threat and an open thread (see the Quest Tracker).
