Summary
The Masquerade of Whispers was a secret society of junior scholars, librarians, and collectors who met monthly under the full moon to trade information they deemed important — including books taken from Candlekeep's infernal section, among them volumes that may bear on the Bagpipes of Zariel's Lament and other powerful artifacts.
A Candlekeep librarian first tipped Shade off to the group while she was researching the bagpipes, noting that several books were missing from the infernal section and likely in the Masquerade's hands. The librarian described it as "a secret society in the way that loud cosplay at a silent auction is secret," and suggested the party could get in by presenting any old book with a convincing story.
