Waterdeep, the City of Splendors, is the most influential and important city on the Sword Coast. A massive metropolis of over a million souls, Waterdeep is a center of trade, culture, politics, and power.
Overview
Waterdeep is built around a deep harbor on the western coast of Faerûn. The city is home to powerful noble families, wealthy merchants, influential guilds, and numerous factions vying for power and influence. From the gleaming towers of Castle Waterdeep to the bustling markets of the Dock Ward, the city teems with opportunity and danger.
The city is protected by the Watch (city guard), the Guard (military), and the mysterious Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors. It is governed by the Lords of Waterdeep, masked rulers who keep their identities secret.
Government
Waterdeep is ruled by the Lords of Waterdeep, including the Open Lord (currently Lord Dagult Neverember) and numerous masked Lords whose identities are kept secret. The city is a founding member of the Lords Alliance.
