Zarchelia

"Fate is a melody, sweet and dreadful. I'm merely here to play the tune."

— Zarchelia

Zarchelia is a cunning erinyes, a fiend from the Nine Hells of Baator, serving directly under a Lord of Hell. Known primarily as an infernal manipulator, Zarchelia has appeared throughout history in numerous guises, whispering dark promises into the ears of mortals and subtly shaping events to serve infernal ambitions.

She is a powerful devil high in the infernal hierarchy. She was accidentally summoned by a Dragon Soul cultist of the Cult of the Dragon who inscribed runes in a summoning circle at the Hill of Lost Souls, but the cultist made a critical error and lost control of the summoning. Upon arrival, Zarchelia broke the circle and slew the Dragon Soul who summoned her.

Appearance and Personality

When encountered in the Hills of Lost Souls, Zarchelia appeared as a strikingly beautiful humanoid woman with obsidian-black hair cascading over dark crimson armor. Her wings, vast and feathered in rich shades of blood-red, folded neatly behind her, giving her an imposing yet elegant appearance. Her voice was melodic, intoxicating, and disturbingly comforting, as though each word she spoke carried hidden meanings and veiled promises.

Zarchelia's mannerisms are always refined and deliberate. She often carries herself with regal grace, radiating a presence both alluring and threatening. Her eyes—a vibrant gold flecked with crimson—seem to pierce directly into the souls of those she encounters, uncovering secrets and desires with unsettling ease.

Known History

Service to Lord of Hell

Zarchelia is an agent of an unknown Lord of Hell. She undertakes missions requiring subtlety, charisma, and long-term strategic manipulation. She excels at corrupting mortals through temptation and persuasion rather than brute force.

Encounter at the Hills of Lost Souls

The party first encountered Zarchelia within the eerie, mist-shrouded confines of the Hills of Lost Souls, where she was inexpertly summoned by a party of dragon cultists. Her primary interactions were directed toward Shade, highlighting the bard's infernal heritage and hinting at grander schemes yet unrevealed.

During her brief encounter with the party, she recognized Shade and spoke cryptic words about her lineage: "You are the one known as Shade, are you not? Curious that you would be here as well. Know this, while you were born into a world that mistook you for a mistake, your lineage is no accident."

When Alexios attempted to command her with divine authority, she trivially ignored his efforts, demonstrating her significant power.

Zarchelia spoke with both familiarity and amused interest, suggesting a deeper personal stake in Shade's journey. Her exact goals remain unclear, but Zarchelia's emphasis on Shade's lineage, combined with cryptic references to her master's foresight regarding Tiamat's attempted escape, suggests her intent to manipulate events through subtle encouragement, temptation, and psychological leverage rather than direct confrontation.

She then flew north to answer the call of her master.
