Heavy iron bracers, blackened as though pulled from a forge fire and quenched in something colder than water. Each is wrapped in fine infernal chain that loops three times around the forearm and clasps over the wrist with a sigil-stamped lock — Zarchelia's mark, though you didn't notice her stamp it. The chains are warm to the touch even in winter, and they rattle softly of their own accord when the bracers hold unspent power, a sound like distant teeth grinding. Spent of charges, they fall silent, and the iron grows cold.
When you channel a spell through them, the chains pull taut against the skin for an instant — not painfully, but firmly, the way a hand on the shoulder reminds you who's standing behind you. Zarchelia gave them to you with both her hands, fastening them herself. "A warrior should be bound to something," she said. "Better me than nothing at all."
Properties
Charges. The bracers have 5 charges. While wearing them, you can expend charges to cast the following spells:
- Expeditious Retreat (1 charge)
- Infernal Smite (2 charges)
- Hellgate's Passage (3 charges)
Recharge Ritual. The bracers regain all expended charges when you complete a long rest, but only if you perform the Blood for Iron ritual at dawn: draw a thin cut across your palm with the edge of a chain link and let three drops fall onto the bracers. The iron drinks the blood and the chains warm again. If the ritual is not performed, the bracers remain dormant until the next dawn.
Lore
These bracers were gifted by Zarchelia, the erinyes, as part of a fiendish pact. The sigil-stamped lock bears her mark, a constant reminder of the bond between wearer and devil.
