Description

Stone walls and wrought-iron gates mark this seaside manor perched dramatically on the coastal bluffs north of Waterdeep. Sea-salt winds whip constantly across the property, and the cries of gulls echo from the nearby cliffs. The estate commands impressive views of the northern coastline.

Overview

Lord Valtheran maintained two estates to support his dual life as both a Waterdeep noble and a high-ranking cultist: a townhouse in Waterdeep for his public face, and this coastal manor for more private—and nefarious—activities.

After being identified as a cultist at Lady Calera's gala in Waterdeep (thanks to a stolen ring worn by a pickpocket named Carter), Valtheran fled the city to this northern estate. He used the coastal manor as a final refuge and operational base, though it would ultimately become the site of his defeat.

Notable Events

Session 42 - Confrontation at the Manor:

Deez Nuts tracked Valtheran to his coastal estate after discovering his cultist identity. Approaching under the guise of returning the stolen cult ring in a gesture of goodwill, the party confronted Valtheran at his front door.

Valtheran himself appeared, robed in fine purple—a visual representation of his "Wearer of the Purple" rank. His smile didn't reach his eyes as he denied ownership of the ring and tried to have a servant collect it. When the party pressed the issue, Valtheran's voice hardened: "You've been a thorn in our side for too long."

The confrontation escalated rapidly. Shade slid the ring onto her finger and punched a laborer, stamping the cult crest into his cheek while declaring: "Now you can see what the ring looks like." Steel sang; initiative was called.

The battle that erupted in the courtyard was sudden and vicious:

Valtheran unleashed a blast of dragon's breath from a gemstone clutched in his hand, flames roaring across the courtyard
Shade answered with hellfire of her own
Xanphina's lightning-charged javelin speared through multiple foes, the air crackling in its wake
Karma's magic withered the lord's vitality
Alexios broke enchantments with hammer and holy light
Gootcha's bolts sang with the Raven Queen's hunger
A cult spellcaster's Hold Person froze Shade in place—until Alexios' strike broke the caster's concentration

Blood hissed on the stone as the fighting pressed toward the manor steps. At last, Alexios drove his spear clean through Valtheran, ending the cult leader's threat.

Intelligence Revealed:

Pressed for information about the Draakhorn, the dying Valtheran finally revealed crucial intelligence: the Draakhorn is at the Well of Dragons, where cult leaders sound it around the clock to call dragons to their banner. This revelation explained why the cult had been relatively quiet in recent months—they were occupied transporting and deploying their most powerful artifact.

After defeating Valtheran and clearing the manor of cultist presence, Deez Nuts used the estate as a rest stop. They recuperated here before undertaking the journey to Waterdeep for their formal audience with the Council of Waterdeep.
