Thurmin (Retired)
Thurmin (Retired)
Race: Human Class: Cleric (formerly active player character) Alignment: Neutral Good (with strong pacifist tendencies)
Description
Once an adventuring cleric and the spiritual compass of the Phandelver expedition, Thurmin has since retired from active adventuring life. His silver-streaked hair and worn armor speak of years spent underground and in battle, while his easy smile and habit of deflecting responsibility suggest a man content to let others swing the hammers now.
Current Endeavors
Thurmin has diversified his interests between two ventures with the Rockseeker Brothers:
- Brewery Venture: Partnered with Gundren Rockseeker at the Stonehill Inn, where the pair have launched a small microbrewery. Thurmin, self-described as the “idea man,” leaves most of the work to Gundren but enjoys testing the product thoroughly.
- Forge Research: Assists Nundren Rockseeker in unraveling the mysteries of the Forge of Spells. Nundren has made notable progress, crafting bespoke magical weapons available only to select clients. Thurmin’s role is part financier, part moral compass, and part retired tourist.
Conflict with Halia Thornton
Their quiet success attracted the attention of Halia Thornton of the Phandalin Miner's Exchange and the Zhentarim. When Thurmin and Nundren refused to create weapons for her shadowy clientele, Halia retaliated by imposing a “tax” on their mining operations.
Reluctant to escalate hostilities, Thurmin agreed to pay — but soon noticed Halia’s thugs snooping around Wave Echo Cave. Rather than wage war, he took a pragmatic approach: he recruited **Venomfang**, the young green dragon of Thundertree, to guard the mine in exchange for treasure-hoarding rights and a steady supply of intruders to snack on.
Though the partnership has required several frank discussions about what counts as an “intruder,” it has stabilized into a functional arrangement. For now, Thurmin maintains a peaceful if tenuous truce with Halia and her Zhentarim allies.
Personality
Thurmin has embraced semi-retirement with gusto, preferring peace, ale, and manageable levels of chaos. His philosophy can best be summed up as: “If it’s not smiting me, it’s probably fine.”
