Background

Derek serves as the portal operator at the Harper guildhall in Baldur's Gate, facilitating rapid travel between the two major cities. His role is crucial for Harper operations, allowing agents to move quickly across the Sword Coast.

As a simulacrum, Derek possesses all the memories and abilities needed to operate the portal, but he is a construct rather than a living being. Despite this, he carries out his duties with competence and professionalism.

The portal activation requires what can only be described as an "interpretive dance" - individual and mercifully undescribed movements that attune the traveler to the portal's magic.
