Thavius Kreeg

High Overseer Thavius Kreeg is the beloved priest-ruler of Elturel — the man who summoned the Companion, and by near-universal account the best thing to happen to the city in living memory.

History

Born to an old Elturgard family from the outlying regions, Kreeg rose to become a high priest of Torm, the god of duty and vigilance, renowned across the land for the strength of his divination magic — it was said that little stayed hidden from a man to whom Torm's vigilance spoke so clearly. When a lich's grip closed over Elturel in 1444 DR, it was Kreeg who came to the city and summoned the Companion, the unsetting second sun whose light broke the undead and freed Elturel. He did not take power for himself; he returned to his temple. Only in 1450 DR, when the High Overseer's seat fell vacant, did the city raise him to it — elected all but unanimously, the savior asked at last to steer what he had saved. He has ruled ever since.

Works

• The Dawnbringers. Though a priest of Torm himself, Kreeg welcomed the faith of the dawn into the city of unsetting light, helped establish the order, and gave its highest seat — the Dawnspire — a home in Elturel.
• The Hellriders. The corps that returned from the Ride was a shadow of its old strength, and stayed that way for near a century. Kreeg's patronage rebuilt it: today the Hellriders are a strong military force whose patrols guard the Sword Coast cities' southeastern approaches.
• The war against the Cult. Elturel under Kreeg is a pillar of the alliance against the Cult of the Dragon — provisioning for the coming battles jointly with the Dawnbringers, and backing the party: the old Hellriders' fort (Nuts Deep) was granted to Deez Nuts on his behalf, and after the Battle of Nuts Deep he sent craftsmen, staff, and supplies in thanks.

Role in Campaign

Kreeg met the party alongside Leosin Erlanthar, Ontharr Frume, and Jamna Gleamsilver when Skyreach Castle landed outside Elturel's walls (S35), congratulating them on tearing the flying castle from the cult's grasp. In Session 52 Marshal Ulder Ravengard granted the party the Gray Watch on Kreeg's behalf, and Kreeg's administrator now manages Nuts Deep's restoration; after the battle there (S53) the city's craftsmen arrived with his blessing. (His name was garbled in some recordings as "Fabius Krieg" — the spelling is settled by usage.)
