Tresendar Manor

Tresendar Manor, the Ruined Estate Above Phandalin

Tresendar Manor is a crumbling estate overlooking the town of Phandalin. Once the proud home of the noble Tresendar family, it now stands as a half-collapsed ruin — its shattered halls and tunnels beneath repurposed as the lair of the Redbrands.

Overview

The adventurers first learned of the manor in Session 03 – Welcome to Phandalin, where they were told the Redbrands had established their hideout beneath the ruins. The manor’s cracked stone walls, collapsed roof, and eerie silence give it an air of faded grandeur. Beneath, ancient cellars and secret tunnels connect to forgotten catacombs and smuggler routes — a perfect refuge for criminals.

Local legend holds that the last lord of the Tresendar line died defending the manor from orcs centuries ago. His ghost, known as the “Blackhawk of Tresendar,” is said to still wander the crypts, protecting his family’s ancestral sword.

Notable Areas

  • **Redbrand Hideout:** A subterranean warren of tunnels, storage rooms, and torture chambers used by Glasstaff and his gang.
  • **Tresendar Crypts:** Resting place of the Tresendar family; haunted by skeletal guardians and the spirit of Sir Aldith Tresendar.
  • **Secret Tunnel:** Discovered by Carp Alderleaf; provides an alternate entrance into the hideout.
  • **Collapsed Hall:** A roofless chamber open to the elements, overgrown with ivy and moss.

Faction Influence

Current Status

As of Session 03 – Welcome to Phandalin, the party has not yet entered the manor’s depths. The Redbrands remain entrenched, though tension and fear among their ranks grow as Glasstaff’s motives become suspect.

Truth: Beneath Tresendar Manor lies an ancient vault containing fragments of dwarven craftsmanship linked to Wave Echo Cave. Glasstaff (Iarno Albrek) discovered runes there describing elemental bindings once used in draconic forges — knowledge coveted by the Black Spider and, indirectly, the Cult of the Dragon.

Foreshadowing:

  • The manor’s subterranean tunnels mirror the cult’s growing network of hidden lairs across the Sword Coast.
  • Recovering Glasstaff’s research or relics could provide early clues about the arcane methods the Cult intends to use in Rise of Tiamat.
  • The spirit of Sir Aldith Tresendar could later become an ally or source of cryptic guidance about ancient draconic wars.
