Find Varram the White

The Council of Waterdeep has assigned Deez Nuts to locate Varram the White, a Wyrmspeaker of the Cult of the Dragon who has apparently lost the White Dragon Mask. Intelligence from the Harpers indicates that Varram is searching for the mask covertly, trying to conceal its loss from the rest of the Cult. Recovering the White Dragon Mask before Varram does would remove a critical resource from the Cult's ritual to summon Tiamat.

About Varram the White

Varram the White is a dwarven Cult of the Dragon Wyrmspeaker, one of five high-ranking cultists each entrusted with a dragon mask. As Wyrmspeaker of white dragons, Varram wielded the White Dragon Mask—until she lost it, sparking a desperate secret quest to recover it before the cult leadership discovers her failure.

Appearance and Personality: Varram is a dwarf of considerable ambition but questionable competence. Her position as Wyrmspeaker came more from political maneuvering within the cult than from actual strategic brilliance. Now, the loss of her dragon mask has exposed her inadequacy and left her in a precarious position.

The Lost Mask: The White Dragon Mask is one of five ancient artifacts the Cult of the Dragon seeks to unite. Each mask grants its wearer significant power over dragons of that color. Varram's loss of such a crucial artifact represents a catastrophic failure that could cost her not just her position, but her life.

Current Situation: Rather than report her failure to cult leadership (which would likely result in execution), Varram is conducting a covert search for the mask. She's operating with minimal resources, trying to recover the artifact before Severin or the other Wyrmspeakers discover what happened.

Last confirmed sighting placed her at Boareskr Bridge in the last tenday of Uktar 1488, lodged at the south-bank caravanserai with an escort of six (see Harper Dispatch: Boareskr Bridge), though she's likely moving constantly to avoid both cult oversight and potential rivals who might exploit her weakness.

Strategic Value: Finding Varram offers multiple advantages:

  • Recover the White Dragon Mask - Preventing the cult from reuniting all five masks
  • Interrogate a Wyrmspeaker - High-level intelligence about cult operations and plans
  • Exploit internal weakness - Varram's desperation makes her vulnerable to pressure
  • Disrupt cult hierarchy - Removing a Wyrmspeaker weakens cult leadership
  • Learn mask locations - She may know where other masks are or how to find them

Personality Under Pressure: Varram's desperation makes her dangerous and unpredictable. She may attempt negotiation, violence, or deception depending on circumstances. However, her fear of cult retribution could also make her willing to cooperate if offered protection or a way out.

Objective

Track down Varram the White and recover the White Dragon Mask before she can retrieve it. The Harpers spy network has discovered that:

  • Varram has lost the White Dragon Mask
  • She is searching for it covertly, attempting to hide its loss from other Cult leaders
  • Varram was last seen at Boareskr Bridge

Recovering the White Dragon Mask would prevent the Cult from using it in their ritual and remove significant power from their arsenal. The Council is uncertain how many dragon masks the Cult needs for the ritual to summon Tiamat, but removing even one should disrupt their plans.

Progress

Active — next on the docket. Quest assigned by the Council of Waterdeep in Session 43; deferred through the Garmok's Mine, Sea of Moving Ice, and Luskan arcs.

  • Session 52 — Marshal Ulder Ravengard re-tasked the party directly: Varram is moving in the northeast, a target of Rezmir's rank, "just below their main leader." "Not certain what she's doing. But we think if you can go and track her down, that'll be a pretty big blow against the cult."
  • Session 53 — confirmed as the official main quest line from Nuts Deep. After roughly a week of downtime standing up the fort, the party marches north to Boareskr Bridge next session.

What Makes This Urgent:

  • Dragon masks are powerful artifacts tied to Tiamat's power
  • The Cult needs the masks for their summoning ritual
  • Varram's covert search suggests desperation - she fears the consequences of her failure
  • Time-sensitive: Varram is actively searching and may recover the mask at any moment

Rewards

  • The White Dragon Mask - A powerful artifact of Tiamat
  • Significant disruption of the Cult of the Dragon's plans
  • Potential intelligence from Varram (if captured) about the Cult's operations
  • Recognition and support from the Council of Waterdeep
  • Removal of a dangerous Wyrmspeaker from the field
