The Harpers' Read
A big armored brute of the deep tunnels, all beak and hooks, that climbs the walls as easily as it walks the floor — so do not assume the ceiling is safe. It is not clever and speaks only in clacking ("Hook," over and over, meaning nothing the company could parse), but it hits hard and shrugs lesser blows off its shell. Two things matter in a fight: it hears more than it sees, navigating by echo, so darkness and invisibility buy you nothing against it; and it comes at you from odd angles along the stone. Meet it with solid blows and watch your flanks and overhead. Three together fell readily enough to a prepared party.

As Deez Nuts pushed through the natural caverns below Garmok's Mine toward the Mind Gobbler's lair, three hook horrors set upon them in the dark. The company cut all three down without serious loss.
