Ontharr Frume

Ontharr Frume is a paladin of the Order of the Gauntlet, the Order's representative to the Council of Waterdeep, and the senior Gauntlet officer Deez Nuts have dealt with since Baldur's Gate. He is loud, hospitable, and fond of ale and company, and he has never once concealed which of those he considers a virtue.

What the party knows

Leosin Erlanthar introduced him to the company in Session 23, when the two were working the same problem from opposite directions — Leosin quietly, Ontharr not. He took to the party immediately and has been their route into the Order ever since.

He sat with Leosin Erlanthar, Thavius Kreeg, and the Zhentarim delegation in Waterdeep to congratulate the company on taking Skyreach Castle (Sessions 3435), and he speaks for the Order at the Council of Waterdeep, where his priority is consistent and well known: protect the people who cannot protect themselves, and do it openly.

Ontharr and Xanphina

He is Xanphina's superior in the Order and, by his own account, the one who argued for her elevation and thought it overdue. On her raising to Hammer of Light he sent her The Anvil — a lance of four sworn under Knight-Sergeant Bertrand Kell, lent rather than given, so that ground she clears stays cleared while she moves on.

The writ he sent with them is characteristic. It apologises for its own organisation, complains that he kept being interrupted while writing it, explains at length why he chose reliable soldiers over skilled ones, and ends by asking her to come and drink with him when the Varram business is finished and to bring Baelgrum, about whom he has heard things.
