A devoted paladin of Athena who joined the party during their quest to the Hill of Lost Souls. As an Acolyte of the Owl, he was one of the few members of the Devout of Athena in Faerûn.

Personality

Brave and determined, Alexios followed the guidance of the goddess Athena. He was willing to stand against impossible odds and proved his courage in battle against devils and dragons alike. He embodied Athena's virtues through action: protecting the weak, vanquishing monstrous tyrants, and turning the tides of war with strategy and sacrifice. He also has an irreverent streak — he will cheerfully offer worship to eldritch horrors, declaring himself a would-be "Paladin of the ancient deep" to an Aboleth in Session 46 ("I might be willing to switch deities if you're a deity").

• Attempted to command the Erinyes Zarchelia, though his divine authority was insufficient

• Protected by Xanphina's ancestral spirits during the battle with Vaartox the Red in Session 38
• Received a vision from Athena after being revived: "You have exacted vengeance against impossible odds. Be guided by my sight, Acolyte"
• In Session 45, the drow researcher Ilyra empowered his gauntlet by linking it to her warded study — adding Reincarnate and Resurrection to the item's existing healing repertoire (Circle of Power, Mass Cure Wounds, Death Ward, Revivify). Resurrection consumes a high-value diamond, of which the party had exactly one from the dragon's hoard.
• By Session 47 he wore Mariner's Plate Armor (heavy armor safe to swim in) for the northern sea voyage.
• Died with the rest of the party against Arauthator in Session 49
• Travelled with his companion Bucephalus

Notable Moments

• Asleep on watch . Posted as the lone night guard during the delve of Garmok's Mine, Alexios fell asleep — and a transparent Gelatinous Cube crept up and nearly engulfed the sleeping party before anyone noticed. A defining bit of his fallible, all-too-human side.
• "Sacrifice the rats" . A recurring tactic and running gag: Alexios conjures a swarm of dire rats to scout for traps or webs in magical darkness, then incinerates them himself with Burning Hands — "They died for the cause… I'll always remember their sacrifice."
• Delivered the killing blow on the black dragon Voaraghamanthar in Session 44 — a Guiding Bolt fired through water at the fleeing, invisible dragon (see that page).
• Rode the Mind Gobbler . In the fight with the mythic Mind Gobbler, Alexios teleported onto the creature's back and rode it like a rodeo bull — "8 seconds you win" — clinging on through repeated buck-off checks to plant an adamantine carving-knife in its neck.
• Held to his oath . Offered a chance to lie a group of Duergar into a deadly path, Alexios refused on principle — "I don't think we can purposefully send them to their death and me keep my oaths" — and instead honestly warned them they were heading toward "pretty much your certain death."
• "I yearn for the mines" . Alexios solo-wielded the Mattock of the Titan and dug the entire bypass tunnel through Garmok's Mine — the "Diggy Diggy Hole" digging montage was built around him — then one-shot-finished both Umber Hulks with the same tool. The mattock's compulsion left him pining for the dig long after.
• The ever-growing speech . His "Inspire Leader" oration grants the party 12 temporary hit points per rest — and became a running gag as the player made the epic speech longer and grander after every rest ("I have marched through desert heat and monsoon rain, never ice…"), until the table joked the crew were jumping off the boat to escape it.

Departure

When Lady Calera gathered the slain party's souls to reforge them in Session 50, Alexios's soul alone slipped her grasp: every time the erinyes reached for him he roared "smite me!", repelling her. Unable to retrieve him, Calera bound a substitute soul — the dwarf cult-hunter Baelgrum — into the party in his place. Alexios's ultimate fate is unknown; he is no longer among Deez Nuts.
