Session 15 – Fire Over Greenest

Lore Recap

A year has passed since the heroes reclaimed the Forge of Spells and freed Phandalin from the shadow of the Black Spider. In that time, the Rockseeker Brothers and Thurmin (Retired) have turned their focus to more peaceful (if still chaotic) pursuits.

Thurmin has split his attention between two ventures:

• Angry Dwarf Brewing – Founded with Gundren Rockseeker at the Stonehill Inn, where Thurmin acts as the “idea man” and quality control expert.
• Forge Research Project – Partnered with Nundren Rockseeker to unlock the mysteries of the Forge of Spells. Nundren’s success in crafting bespoke magical weapons has drawn the unwanted attention of Halia Thornton and her Zhentarim connections.

After refusing to create weapons for her shadowy clients, Halia retaliated by imposing a “protection tax” on their operations. Thurmin’s pragmatic solution was to recruit Venomfang, the green dragon of Thundertree, as a guardian for the mine — a partnership that works so long as everyone remembers the definition of “intruder.” For now, a tense truce holds between the dwarves, Halia, and the dragon.

Recap

During a visit to Phandalin, Cosima, Brudur the Brash, and Xanphina were approached by Reidoth — the druid they once met in Thundertree. He warned them that **Cult of the Dragon** activity had resurfaced near Thundertree, where cultists were seeking Venomfang. Unable to find him, they planned instead to raid the merchant town of Greenest.

The party set out immediately, though Thurmin (Retired) remained behind. By the time they arrived, Greenest was already under siege — flames rising, smoke filling the sky, and a dragon circling overhead.

Along the road and amidst the chaos, they encountered three new allies:

• Bechamel – A wizard investigator and acquaintance of Thurmin, drawn by visions and strange portents. His sharp perception quickly noted that the town was, indeed, on fire.
• Keyleth Siannodel – A wood elf ranger of the Emerald Enclave, apprentice to Reidoth and sworn to protect the balance of nature.
• Gootcha Zinnoa – A half-elf rogue summoned to Greenest by a mysterious letter, arriving just in time for the chaos.

Together, the newly-formed party battled their way through waves of cult raiders, rescuing civilians and escorting them to the relative safety of **The Keep** — the town’s central stronghold. For now, they have earned a short rest, but the fires of war still rage outside.

The siege of Greenest continues. As night falls, the cult’s true intentions begin to reveal themselves — and the heroes must decide whether to stand their ground or strike back.
