Qelline Alderleaf, Halfling Farmer of Phandalin

Qelline Alderleaf is a warm-hearted halfling farmer who runs Alderleaf Farm on the western edge of Phandalin. Known for her pragmatism and kindness, she is one of the town’s most trusted and respected residents. Qelline provides food, shelter, and information to travelers in need — often in exchange for good stories.

Background

A lifelong resident of Phandalin, Qelline raised her son Carp Alderleaf alone while maintaining her small but prosperous farm. When the adventurers arrived in town during Session 03 – Welcome to Phandalin, she welcomed them and offered valuable advice. She recommended they visit her old friend Reidoth in Thundertree if they wished to learn more about magical matters.

Though she presents herself as an unassuming farmer, Qelline’s knowledge of the region’s history and people suggests sharper instincts and broader connections than she admits.

Relationships

  • Carp Alderleaf – Her son; she worries constantly about his reckless curiosity.
  • Reidoth – Old friend and confidant, living in Thundertree.
  • Phandalin – Her home; she acts as a quiet stabilizing presence in the community.

Current Status

Alive and maintaining her farm. Though she avoids direct involvement in local politics, Qelline keeps a watchful eye on the shifting balance of power in Phandalin.

Truth: Qelline is a subtle ally of the Harpers, providing shelter and information when needed. She has worked with Sister Garaele on several quiet missions to protect Phandalin from criminal and cultist infiltration.

Foreshadowing:

  • Qelline may serve as a contact or information source for the Harpers during Rise of Tiamat, facilitating communication between the party and Reidoth.
  • Her connection to Reidoth can foreshadow the druid’s importance in later storylines involving the Emerald Enclave and the wider struggle against Tiamat’s forces.
  • If Carp is ever endangered, Qelline’s protective instincts could draw her into direct involvement with the party’s affairs.
