The Harpers' Read
A scrag is a troll of the deep water — the same loping hunger and the same knitting flesh, but it mends only while the water touches it. That gives two answers instead of one: fire or acid as ever, or haul it onto dry land, where its wounds stay open and a plain killing blow will hold. Fight it in its element and you fight forever; fight it on the shore and it is only a large, ugly troll.
Encounters of Record
The company has not yet crossed blades with a scrag itself — it watched its own turned trolls, Ralph, Gunner, and Blade, battle a pack of them in the flooded tunnels of Oyaviggaton (49). Ralph alone came out on top.
