Garmok's Mine

Garmok's Mine is an ancient dwarven mining complex that extends deep into the earth, connecting the surface world to the Underdark. The mine features worked stone corridors in its upper levels that gradually transition into natural cave systems as one descends deeper.

Overview

Garmok's Mine is a sprawling underground complex originally created by dwarves for mining operations. The upper levels feature characteristic dwarven construction—carved stone passages, barracks, and worked chambers. However, as one descends, the dwarven architecture gives way to natural cave formations that have existed since time immemorial.

The mine serves as a major connection point between the surface and the deep Underdark, making it a natural thoroughfare for various creatures and factions moving between these realms.

History

The mine is named after Garmok, a legendary dwarf associated with the creation of Garmok's Flail. The mine appears to have been abandoned by its original dwarven inhabitants, though the circumstances of this abandonment remain unclear.

In recent times, the mine has become home to various creatures from the Underdark, including aberrations, myconids, Derro, and more dangerous entities like mind flayer experiments.

Geography

The mine is structured in distinct levels:

Upper Levels: Carved dwarven corridors and barracks with worked stone construction

Middle Levels: Transitional areas where dwarven construction gives way to natural caves, including the Myconid Grove
