The Harpers' Read
A troll is barely a mind wrapped around a hunger. What makes it deadly is what it does after you wound it: the gash closes, the bone knits, a hewn-off arm gropes back to its socket. There is exactly one answer — fire or acid. Sear every serious wound or the thing simply will not stay down; a troll dropped without flame rises again in moments. Carry a torch, a flask of oil, a fire-spell — anything that burns — and finish it on the ground.
Subtypes
- Ice Troll — a frost-rimed troll of the far north, inured to cold and quick to deal it. Arauthator keeps them as wardens.
- Scrag — the aquatic troll; it mends only while water touches it, so dry land is its undoing.
Encounters of Record
The company has met troll-kind on both sides of a blade. They fought them on the road north (26), and in the icy north they both faced troll-kind and turned some to their side — the mercenary trolls Ralph, Gunner, and Blade held off a pack of scrags inside Oyaviggaton (48–49), where the dragon's ice trolls guarded its halls.
