Trade Way

The Trade Way is the great caravan road of the western Sword Coast, running from Waterdeep in the north down through Daggerford and Dragonspear Castle, over the Winding Water at Boareskyr Bridge, and on south through Soubar, Triel, and Scornubel toward Baldur's Gate and beyond.

Overview

Most of the goods moving up and down the western coast travel this road, and much of the campaign's caravan work has happened on it — including the party's undercover stint with the Cult of the Dragon's own caravan, and Murray's murder on the road. The Harpers have long been blind on the stretch north of the Chionthar: the Cult moved along it at least three known times in a year, each learned of only after the fact — a gap the network began closing in Session 54 with a standing source at Boareskyr Bridge (Othavir).

Quests & Events

  • The march north (S54): Nuts DeepTrielSoubarBoareskyr Bridge — safe roads through Elturgard.
  • Yuan-ti attacks (reported S54): many attacks on travelers along the stretch between Boareskyr Bridge and Dragonspear Castle — tracking raiders back from that road is held to be a good way to cull the Serpent Hills clutch.
  • The four Cult of the Dragon "travelers" were ambushed and killed by Elturgard paladins on the road north-east of the bridge (S54), and left roadside as a warning to Cult traffic.
