Faction Support Tracker

What Deez Nuts knows about the factions arrayed against the Cult of the Dragon: what each wants, how their favor is earned or lost, what they can offer the cause, and what the party has done for them. (Player-facing reference. For per-character ranks and boons, see the Renown Tracker; for how the council and the countryside regard the company, the Council Disposition Tracker; for the war council itself, the Council of Waterdeep.)

Council of Waterdeep factions

Faction Goals & priorities Earn their favor Lose their favor What they can offer What the party has done
Harpers
Rep: Remalia Haventree, Leosin Erlanthar; member: Gootcha
Expose and dismantle the Cult from within; preserve the balance of power through secrets, not open chaos. Expose plots, deliver intelligence, recruit informants, avert bloodshed through subtlety. Brutality, recklessness, public exposure of a mission, betrayal. Intelligence and safehouses: covert routes, informant networks, dossiers, false identities. Enlisted a pickpocket spy; rescued the Bronze Blades; cleared the Candlekeep road; trained Lizardfolk defenders; took/retook Castle Naerytar; brokered ThurminHalia; infiltrated the Masquerade of Whispers. Gootcha now runs The Nightingales.
Order of the Gauntlet
Rep: Ontharr Frume; member: Xanphina
Total eradication of the Cult; protect the innocent and destroy evil openly and honorably. Slay cultists, fiends, undead, and evil dragons; protect innocents at personal cost; act honorably and show mercy. Deceit, cowardice, cruelty, collateral harm. Sanctioned strikes: troops, healers and divine support, relic loans, legal authority. Killed Lord Valtheran, Rezmir, Rath Modar, Vaartox, Iskralathrax; eased Veylan's spirit; trained defenders; retook Castle Naerytar; took Skyreach Castle. The Anvil is lent to Xanphina.
Emerald EnclaveTalons of Veylan
Member: Keyleth
Destroy the Cult and purge evil dragonkind; strength must answer corruption. Slay chromatic dragons and draconic servants; protect sacred groves; oppose corrupting arcana. Sparing evil dragons; allowing desecration of the wild. Dragon-hunting muscle, relic preservation, wilderness guides, dragon-lair intelligence. Killed Iskralathrax, Vaartox, Voaraghamanthar, and Arauthator; (−) calmed Venomfang and parleyed with the black dragon at sea. Keyleth now fields Talonfall.
Emerald EnclaveScales of Eldath
Rep: Declan Winterhound; member: Karma
Stop the Cult while preserving the balance; even evil has a place, and violence is a last resort. Reform or relocate dangerous creatures; prevent bloodshed; heal corrupted land. Needless death; slaying foes that pose no immediate threat; breaking the peace. Druidic wards, negotiated creature withdrawals, sanctuary, restoration. (+) Calmed Venomfang and brokered the sea parley and the merrow peace; (−) killing Iskralathrax when peace was possible.
Zhentarim
Leader: Rian Nightshade; member: Shade
Crush the Cult to keep power balanced — and profit plentiful; prefer leverage over conquest. Grow Zhent reach or profit, eliminate threats, return Zhent property, broker deals. Failures and exposure, altruism that costs profit, aiding Harper/Gauntlet aims against them. Logistics and favors: transport and smuggling routes, bribes, political influence, deniable teams. Returned Zhentarim items to Waterdeep; brokered Thurmin–Halia; dealt for the bagpipes.
Lords' Alliance
Leader: Lord Dagult Neverember
Coordinated defense of the Sword Coast cities; preserve member-city power. Protect member cities, deliver assigned missions, prove the threat is real. Endangering cities, freelancing against Council authority, failing assignments. City authority and resources across member cities, troops, logistics, legal standing. Accepted the deputization; killed Lord Valtheran; delivered Cult intelligence; found and freed Maccath.
Devout of Athena
Member: Alexios (lost in the Hells, S50)
Thwart the Cult through courage, cunning, and protective vengeance; strategy over spectacle. Protect the weak, win through tactics, deliver just vengeance, keep one's word. Selfish vengeance, rash spectacle, abandoning the weak, dishonoring an oath. Strategic counsel: battlefield planning, oaths of protection, enemy-strategy analysis. Carried by Alexios's deeds; with his loss in the Hells [1] the faction has no party anchor at present.

Powers beyond the Council

Power What the party knows How to win them over What the party has done
The Giants
Thurmin, Bechamel, Bernie aboard Skyreach Castle
Giants opposed the dragons in past Tiamat summonings; the party is courting them as allies. Honor giant custom; keep the promises made through Thurmin, Bechamel, and Bernie; prove worth against dragons. Took Skyreach Castle from the Cult and sent the flying castle to enlist the giants; Thurmin, Bechamel, and Bernie travel among them building the alliance.
Arcane Brotherhood (Luskan)
Zelene, Maccath the Crimson
Luskan's mages; foremost experts on the Draakhorn and dragons. Sold the party gear at cost with a buy-back. Return Maccath safely; deliver Marfulb's research; share dragon intelligence. Found and freed Maccath from Oyaviggaton; escorting her home; carrying Marfulb's research to publish.
Metallic Dragons
Verithrax (bronze)
Sympathetic to the cause against Tiamat; the Draakhorn's over-broad call is now drawing metallic dragons too (per Maccath). Anti-chromatic credentials; aiding or freeing metallics; proving the cause. Befriended Verithrax; slew the chromatics Vaartox, Iskralathrax, Voaraghamanthar, and Arauthator.
