| Quest | Campaign Arc | Status | Key NPCs | Sessions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Investigate the Cult of the Dragon | Rise of Tiamat | Active — the overarching war against the Cult and its plan to summon Tiamat. S52: their method is confirmed — a randomized list of soft targets raided by dragon and cultists to feed a god-sized hoard; they run layered information control (sending stones, split call-and-response keys), keep standing surveillance on Deez Nuts, and have sent multiple assassination squads. S53: they attacked a secret Elturel supply caravan within sight of the city with an undead force and wyrmling air support — "the cult is getting more brazen." S54: four Cult agents at Boareskyr Bridge knew Deez Nuts by name and demanded the party's captured Orbs of Dragon's Breath back — "I would appreciate if you returned them to us" — before dying to Elturgard paladins on the road | Leosin Erlanthar, Council of Waterdeep | Sessions 18–54+ |
| Stop the Summoning of Tiamat / Recover the Draakhorn | Rise of Tiamat | Active — the Cult holds the Draakhorn (a horn that musters dragons within 2,000 miles). S52: Maccath the Crimson proposes magic items placed along the Sword Coast to suppress its call — it won't recall dragons already summoned, but should stop any more from answering. She may need "something that represents the power from each of the chromatic dragons, from each of the colors," and carries a sending stone | Maccath the Crimson, Cult of the Dragon | Sessions 48–52+ |
| Find Varram the White | Rise of Tiamat | Active — IN PURSUIT [1] — the party reached Boareskyr Bridge: Varram was there weeks ago, killed Yuan-ti spies in the inn ("the hero of Boareskyr Bridge"), and left with her entourage toward the Serpent Hills. Her trail runs northeast along the Winding Water — a cold camp, dwarf-sized bootprints striding hard, and clawed, inhuman tracks among her mercenaries. The yuan-ti are hunting her too, portrait in hand, and nobody knows why | Varram the White, Ulder Ravengard, Remalia Haventree | Sessions 43+ |
| Restore Nuts Deep | Rise of Tiamat | Active — the fort won its first battle [2] and Elturel's gratitude is paying for the rebuild: Thavius Kreeg is sending craftsmen, staff, and supplies (smith, artificer, potion master, war room, administrators, soldiers). A working teleportation circle was found in the mage tower — Shade can memorize it for one-way trips home. S54: every PC now runs a faction retinue whose leader is stationed at the fort | Ulder Ravengard, Thavius Kreeg | Sessions 52+ |
| Stop Rezmir and the Black Dragon Lady | Rise of Tiamat | Active — Rezmir fled Castle Naerytar with the Red Wizard Rath Modar; her soul is owed to the Raven Queen | Rezmir, Rath Modar | Sessions 27–28+ |
| Rite of Sundering | Rise of Tiamat | Active — find The Ashtongue to mend the infernal rift beneath Garmok's Mine; charged to Xanphina by Garmok's spirit. The rift is still open and seeping — it is what saturated the blood-red coins that corrupted Luskan [3] | The Ashtongue, Xanphina | Sessions 45+ |
| Report Findings to Council of Waterdeep | Rise of Tiamat | Ongoing — standing reporting obligation to the Council. S52: reported to Marshal Ulder Ravengard in Waterdeep (Arauthator's death confirmed); Maccath the Crimson and the Arcane Brotherhood delegation are Waterdeep-bound to meet the Council directly | Council of Waterdeep, Ulder Ravengard, Remalia Haventree, Ontharr Frume | Sessions 43+ |
Faction Quests
Standing charges sent to individual members of the company by their own factions during the downtime at Nuts Deep. Each is that faction's business, given to its own member. (Two of the four were re-issued verbally at the S54 table, superseding earlier drafts — the pages below are the charges as actually given.)
| Charge | Faction | Given to | Status | In short |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harper Dispatch: A Source at the Bridge | Harpers | Gootcha | Mostly complete [1] | Standing Harper source at Boareskyr Bridge recruited — the innkeeper Otho. Still open: the 1450 guest ledger copy for the Archives |
| Zhentarim Instruction: An Asset at the Bridge | Zhentarim | Shade | Complete [1] | The trader Bolo signed as the Network's smuggling path through Boareskyr Bridge; renown earned |
| Talons Dispatch: The Kiln | Talons of Veylan | Keyleth | Active | A Cult of the Dragon clutch at the Kiln, a day north of the bridge, guarded by something past Talonfall's cull limit |
| Dawnbringer Charge: The Foreseen Artifact | Dawnbringers | Baelgrum | Active — open-ended | The order's diviners foresee Baelgrum near an artifact of the Temple of Lathander; keep senses peeled, bring it back |
Completed Quests
Rise of Tiamat
| Quest | Description | Key NPCs | Outcome | Sessions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zhentarim Instruction: An Asset at the Bridge | Recruit a trader at Boareskyr Bridge who can move goods (and people) for the Black Network | Shade, Bolo | Complete — Bolo, her market, and her smuggler's cache signed on; the Network has a path through the bridge and Shade earned renown | Session 54 |
| Defend the Elturel caravan (the Battle of Nuts Deep) | Save a Dawnbringers-escorted caravan of secret anti-Tiamat supplies and magic items from a Cult of the Dragon undead strike force | The Dawnbringer Banneret, Carl, Thavius Kreeg | Total victory — every attacker destroyed (necromancer, wight, dragonborn cultist, two blue wyrmlings, the undead horde); the caravan delivered; Baelgrum recruited into the Dawnbringers; Elturel's craftsmen dispatched to the fort in thanks | Session 53 |
| Investigate Garmok's Mine | Clear the haunted mine in the Mere of Dead Men and uncover what the Cult sought there | Garmok the Chainbearer, Voaraghamanthar | Mine cleared; Garmok's spirit freed from holding the hell-rift; the black dragon Voaraghamanthar slain | Sessions 43–44 |
| Find Maccath the Crimson | Locate the missing Arcane Brotherhood dragon expert in the Sea of Moving Ice | Maccath the Crimson, Verithrax, Remalia Haventree | Found and freed from Arauthator's lair at Oyaviggaton; she rejoins the Arcane Brotherhood with the party's escort | Sessions 47–48 |
| Defeat Arauthator (Old White Death) | Survive and slay the ancient white dragon holding Maccath and an enslaved ice-hunter clan | Arauthator, Lady Calera, Maccath the Crimson | After a total party kill and an infernal bargain, the reforged party slew Arauthator in a single time-frozen volley; ice hunters freed, dragon harvested | Sessions 48–50 |
| The blood-red infernal gold | Explain the blood-red coins from Garmok's Mine and undo the corruption they spread through Luskan | Maccath the Crimson, Zelene, Halvard Greyskein | Resolved — cause: the party's own spending of 6,000 coins at the Gilded Albatross [4]; the coins were saturated with raw infernal energy from the rift beneath the mine (not magical — "the form is imbued, not the material"). Cure engineered: cumulative 3rd-level magical fire melts them. Every hoard in the city was bought back, stolen back, or melted in place — including 2,400 in the Host Tower of the Arcane vault — and Luskan was cured city-wide | Sessions 44, 47, 51 |
| Infiltrate the Masquerade of Whispers | Get inside the secret society of scholars trading books stolen from Candlekeep's infernal section | Shade, Candlekeep | Party infiltrated the Masquerade at Candlekeep and gained access to its traded knowledge (session to confirm) | TBC |
| Investigate the Attacks on Halia's Waypoints | Stop the raids on Halia Thornton's Zhentarim waypoints along the Phandalin trade routes | Halia Thornton, Cult of the Dragon, Thurmin | Crisis resolved by delivering the missing magic items; attackers identified as a Cult splinter (the Sighing Masks), who remain at large | TBC |

Quest Leads & Open Hooks
Threads the party has uncovered but not yet pursued — rumors, omens, and unfinished business that could become full quests.
| Lead | What's known |
|---|---|
| Why are the Yuan-ti hunting Varram? (NEW, S54) | A clutch of yuan-ti spies infiltrated Boareskyr Bridge watching for the dwarf, and a murdered yuan-ti tracker on her trail carried a portrait of Varram sewn into secret pockets in its own flesh. The serpent-folk of the Serpent Hills want the Wyrmspeaker specifically — and the party has no idea why. Best theory on offer (Shade): "reptile-on-reptile violence." |
| Who is the "us" that wants the orbs back? (NEW, S54) | The lead Cult "traveler" at the bridge: "I've heard that maybe you've acquired one or more of those orbs. I would appreciate if you returned them to us." The party has now taken Orbs of Dragon's Breath off multiple wyrmspeaker-adjacent agents; somebody in the Cult is counting them, and knows Deez Nuts has them. |
| Yuan-ti attacks on the Trade Way (NEW, S54) | Per the Cult travelers themselves: many yuan-ti attacks on travelers along the Trade Way between Boareskyr Bridge and Dragonspear Castle. Tracking raiders back from that stretch would be a way to cull the clutch. |
| Not all of Varram's mercenaries are human (NEW, S54) | At her cold camp on the Winding Water trail, several prints press far too deep and end in claws. |
| The Companion and the hellmouth — same ground [2] | The unexplained Companion (summoned by Thavius Kreeg to break a lich's grip on Elturel — nobody knows what it is or how he did it) hangs over the same stretch of country where the Hellriders' gate to Hell was opened, beside Nuts Deep. Baelgrum: "So we have a mysterious glowing ball and a demonic incursion all in the same area. That's interesting." |
| Elturel's secret war stockpile [2] | The Dawnbringers and the Hellriders are jointly moving supplies and magic items into Elturel by secret caravan "for the upcoming battles" against Tiamat. Even a fellow Lathanderite wasn't told the manifest. The Cult attacked one such caravan in force — it knows the stockpile exists. |
| Faction charges (S53–S54) | See Faction Quests above — two now complete. The Dawnbringers still owe Baelgrum his induction items at an Elturel temple, and The Dawnwatch awaits his elevation. Karma's floated boon: wild-shaping into dragon types via the Scales of Eldath. Still open from the Harper letter: the 1450 guest ledger copy. |
| The Cult's treasure-sense [5] | At the razed homesteads north of Neverwinter, survivors reported that after the houses burned, "the cultists went right in through the ashes and pulled out the small amount of gold and jewelry that we had" — as though they could smell it. Baelgrum flagged it ("We may want to ask our other contacts about that"); Shade guessed "somebody's got a spell." Never followed up. [1] |
| Morrow and Vex escaped [5] | Two of the six assassins from The Turnip Wagon Ambush survived — Morrow stabbed himself to trigger a Contingency and dimension-doored out with Vex. They still hold the squad's sending stone and their portions of the call-and-response key, and they have watched the whole party fight. |
| The Cult is watching Deez Nuts [5] | Per Rook Blackstring under interrogation: "there are resources everywhere trying to collect as much information as possible on you. Some, their only job is just to listen." Multiple hit squads have already been sent, and the Cult has specifically identified Gootcha's soul-taking as its central problem — "we expect that it's due to her." More will come. [1] |
| Prophecy of the Thorn-Born Star | Now three stanzas — the final one recovered in S53 from the sealed vault of the lich-archmage Arklem Greeth via the Arcane Brotherhood: "The tide once turned, a debt comes due — the star that turned it, setting too" (death, or transformation?). The Harpers delivered The Grove Burnings — eight related dragon attacks across seven centuries, no known survivors, all under re-investigation. And a warning from Maccath the Crimson: the research resonates and can be divined — the Cult may now know the party is looking. |
| The Goosebear — is the honk the Draakhorn? | A legendary fear-honking chimera of the north; Shade suspects the "honk" may actually be the Draakhorn. Halvard Greyskein has repeatedly offered to bankroll an expedition to its treasure hoard in exchange for a cut — the offer renewed, post-cure, in S51. |
| Voaraghamanthar's lost hoard | The mine treasure was a Cult offering, not his hoard — his real hoard lies elsewhere, and his twin Waervaerendor may have revived him. |
| Arauthator's Mate (Arveiaturace) | Arauthator's mate survives in the far north — driven insane by the death of her own tiefling wizard companion, whose corpse she still carries. With Old White Death slain, the grieving, mad white dragon remains at large — a live threat. |
| The Mattock of the Titan mystery | Its mining magic blazed for one task then went dormant; the Svirfneblin want to know why. |
| The Compact's future debt | The reforged party owes Lady Calera / Zarchelia aid in a coming conflict, on Dispater's warrant. (S52 confirms Lady Calera is an erinyes of the second circle of Hell.) |
| The ice hunters' grudge | Bone Carver and the freed ice-hunter clan turned hostile after learning the party killed their missing brethren — a future blood-enemy. |
| The Eye of Gilbraxis — "at least one of them" | More than one Eye is implied to exist; the one Shade bears was a wizard before death. |
| The Sighing Masks — Cult splinter at large | The Cult of the Dragon cell behind the Halia waypoint attacks was never tracked down; identity, leadership, and whereabouts unknown. |
| Two patrons over the party's souls — Raven Queen vs. Dispater | Both the Raven Queen (through Gootcha's pact and the Soul Tokens) and the Hells (through Dispater / Zarchelia and the Compact) hold competing claims on the company. [6] |
| The Mind Gobbler still lives — and is adapting | The mythic illithid-made aberration beneath Garmok's Mine survived the party's retreat; per Ilyra Voss it learns from the magic used against it. Left alive and growing stronger. [7] |
| Ilyra Voss's agenda & the illithid colony | The drow has studied the Underdark aberrations for ~450 years alongside an illithid observer, and used the party as unwitting test subjects. (S45–46) |
| ~500 red coins still in the party's bag of holding | The party deliberately kept ~500 blood-red coins as evidence and props [3]. Never melted — still saturated with infernal energy, shielded only while inside the bag. |
| The Bronze Blades frame-job fallout | Shade convinced both Ship Kurth and the Arcane Brotherhood that the entirely innocent Bronze Blades carry red coins and should be searched "thoroughly" [3]. In S52 the Blades told the party they are riding north into Luskan — and nobody warned them. The fuse is lit. |
| The Cult's Tiamat temple & Infernal ritual book (Garmok's Mine) | The party looted an Infernal-dialect ritual book from a Cult of the Dragon shrine to Tiamat inside the mine [7]; its contents and the Cult's purpose there were never followed up. |
| Northern allies — Verithrax & Mick | An anti-Tiamat adult bronze dragon and a friendly Marid genie (with a wish on cooldown) remain in the Sea of Moving Ice, sympathetic and unspent. [4] |
| The freed lair-peoples ally network | With Arauthator dead, the frost giant Hrimthur, the troll Ralph, and the ice-toad scholar Marfulb are standing favors and potential allies in the north. (S48–50) |
| House T'sarran's drow vendetta | The party killed Commander Vyran T'sarran and a drow priestess beneath Garmok's Mine [8]; their house may seek reprisal. |
| The Aboleth in the Underdark lake | The party appeased and fled an ancient aboleth beneath Garmok's Mine [8]; aboleths nurse long memories. |
| The Derro's surface-trade ambitions / the "Bronze Blades" lie | Derro traders want a surface trade route and were told by Shade that the Bronze Blades are "dwarves worth trading with" [7] — a lie that could send the Derro looking for the real party. |
| Shade's mycelial visions | Myconid rapport spores gave Shade vivid hallucinations — a spectral winged creature and a mystical forest scene [8]. Possibly meaningful foreshadowing. |
| Unexplored relics from Garmok's hoard | Two items from Garmok's Mine remain unexamined — a "strange crown" and a "funerary urn with unknown remains" [6]. |
| Loot owed from S52–S53 | The DM still owes the party the assassin-squad loot [5], the Battle of Nuts Deep spoils, and the necromancer's necromancy-type treasures (his corpse was dragged inside for Shade to pick over). |
